WV Senate Majority Leader Ryan Ferns’ seat was an expensive one in 2016. High-dollar donations from wealthy big spenders made up $65K of his intake in campaign cash, and the energy/extraction industry chipped in another $10K in direct company contributions, but by far the largest portion came in the form of $207K that Ferns personally spent in his bid to buy a position of power in the West Virginia legislature.
